The group HA-YA-TO, formed by brothers Keita, Ryota, and Yuta Kanazashi in 2001, has developed a new stage-musical genre called kobugeki, which combines drumming, theater, and dance. HA-YA-TO’s performances strive to achieve “Wa” (meaning harmony in Japanese) in taiko, creating a unique “sound of Wa” that only the brothers can produce from their drums. Over the past nearly quarter of a century, the musicians’ performances have spread the rhythms and energy of taiko to more than 40 countries around the world.
